Whenever it’s suited him as England rugby coach, Eddie Jones has played his Australian card with twinkle-eyed elan.
Like when he’s being self-deprecating, feigning ignorance on some controversial subject – “Aw, I don’t know, mate. I’m not that smart. I’m an Australian, I’m a convict, mate…”
Or when he wants to rouse his team before playing the Wallabies – “We Australians have bit of an inferiority complex against the English … but I know how they think, this is the game they want to win.”

Well, now the old mind games master has found a new use for this trump card as the debate in English rugby gets ever deeper over whether the 62-year-old Sydney sage is still the guru to lead them at next year’s World Cup.
Jones, naturally, believes he is. Yet the growing grumbles over England’s latest Six Nations stumbling have led him to intimate he’s somehow being given more of a hard time because of his ‘Australian-ness’.
“I don’t think it helps being an Australian,” Jones told the BBC earlier
