Johnny Sexton set to face disciplinary panel today as Ireland skipper looks to avoid ban ahead of Rugby World Cup

JOHNNY SEXTON will face a disciplinary panel today as he looks to avoid a ban for his conduct in the wake of Leinster’s Champions Cup final defeat to La Rochelle.

The Ireland captain had a misconduct complaint lodged against him following the game, which Leinster lost 27-26, having led 17-0 early on.

Sexton did not play in the game as he recovers from a groin injury but he went on to the pitch afterwards and was involved in a heated exchange with referee Jaco Peyper and other match officials.

Sexton, who intends to retire after the World Cup, will appear by video conference call — and any ban could hamper Ireland’s preparations.
