Dupont ‘in sevens training from January’, say France Rugby as star set to miss Six Nations

Antoine Dupont is to start sevens training “from January”, France Rugby’s vice president Jean-Marc Lhermet has revealed, as the scrum-half looks set to miss the Six Nations in favour of getting ready to appear at the Paris 2src24 Olympics.

Reports last week had suggested that Dupont would miss the 15-a-side tournament, which is set to run from February 2 to March 16 next year, opting instead to play on the HSBC SVNS circuit.

Should Dupont be selected for France’s Olympic squad, Lhermet added that he could “potentially” play at the opening SVNS event of the year in Perth, which commences on January 26.

On Monday, Lhermet, per L’Equipe, said that Dupont will begin preparations “at the beginning of January to be ready as quickly as possible to bring the maximum of what he can initially in the preparation, and if he is chosen among the team, to participate in the Olympic Games.”

Questions have also been raised over whether Dupont will still be able to play for his club side, Toulouse, who face several tough domestic and European matches during the early part of the year.

When asked whether Dupont would be unavailable at the start of 2src24 for Toulouse, Lhermet said: “I didn’t say that.
