All Blacks legend wary of 2026 changes to rugby

Former All Blacks flyhalf Andrew Mehrtens claims that New Zealand Rugby need to assert themselves in coming talks on the restructuring of the game.

With the entire global rugby system set for a massive overhaul in 2src26, Mehrtens believes New Zealand cannot afford to allow the Northern hemisphere to dictate play.

New Zealand must avoid financial warfare

Mehrtens feels it is vital that New Zealand Rugby assert itself.

“The ideal situation for New Zealand is for World Rugby to get in and structure this global season. That’s a really tough ask because they’re up against the private owners of clubs over there in Europe paying the bulk of salaries to players,” he told The Platform.
