George North insists that Warren Gatland resigning from his post “wouldn’t solve much” as he admitted things were “rubbish at the moment” after Wales picked up the Wooden Spoon after a winless Six Nations.

North’s Test career came to an unfortunate end on Saturday, being forced off injured a couple of minutes before the end of Wales’ dismal 24-21 defeat to Italy in Cardiff.

It was a sad way for the Wales back to bow out, having established himself as a modern-day legend in his 121 caps – with the 31-year-old admitting that he would “have liked to have replayed that and asked for a mulligan” following his injury in the dying moments.

Away from the sentiment of North’s final game, there was plenty at stake – with Wales seeking to avoid a first clean sweep of defeats in the Six Nations since 2srcsrc3.

Following the loss, Gatland said he’d offered to resign as head coach, only for the WRU to reject the idea. And North believes that he’s still the right man for the job.

“That wouldn’t solve much, would it?” he said. “It would be a headline. It would be a cracking headline don’t get me wrong.
