Wales star reveals ‘frustration’ over tour
Wales prop Dillon Lewis says he found the tour of Australia “frustrating” after failing to make an appearance Down Under due to injury.
The Harlequins man was hoping to make an impact for Warren Gatland’s side this summer after being a late call-up to this year’s Six Nations squad, but couldn’t shake off an injury to his back and leg in time to feature against either the Wallabies or Queensland Reds.
Ahead of the second Test against Australia, Gatland had given an update on the prop’s condition, saying he was “up and running” and hopeful that he would get some minutes against the Reds.
“Dillon, when he came into us, he had a jab on his back,” the coach explained. “He’s had some referral pain down his leg. But he’s up and running now.”
However, Lewis flies back to the UK having not added to his 57 international caps and admitted in an Instagram post that the tour was a frustrating one on a personal level.
Sharing photos from his time in Australia, he wrote: “Frustrating tour, fought hard to get back fit but wasn’t to be! Three weeks in a hotel room with [Cory Hill] was a treat though!”
However, looking ahead to the new season, he added: “Some down time now ready to hit the ground running with Harlequins”.
