The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that Ghana will host the 2024 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Tournament from Saturday, November 9 to Sunday, November 10, 2024, in Accra.
The matches will take place at the newly-built Rugby Stadium at the University of Ghana, highlighting the country’s increasing commitment to women’s sports and international events.
A statement released by the ministry on Wedneday, October 23, said: “This prestigious event, which serves as qualifier for the 2025 Challenger Series, will take place in Accra, marking the first time that West Africa will host this renowned continental competition.”
Organised by the Rugby Africa, the tournament will bring together twelve national teams, including reigning champions South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana, will compete in this fast-paced seven-player format.
The top three teams will qualify for the 2025 Challenger Series.
With free admission, the tournament is expected to draw a substantial audience, both locally and internationally to enhance the visibility of women’s rugby across the continent.
