Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit has revealed that although he’s making strides in American football, he hasn’t completely discarded the idea of a rugby comeback. The fleet-footed athlete is currently chasing his NFL dream with dedication after his rugby hiatus.

Rees-Zammit is almost a year into his transatlantic switch, having caught the eye of the Kansas City Chiefs following his tenure on the International Player Pathway programme. Despite not making the cut with the Super Bowl winners, he was snapped up by the Jacksonville Jaguars and remains an active member of their squad as they ventured to British shores for the London Games series.

Meanwhile, fans can grab a slice of Welsh rugby action by entering a simple draw for free tickets to see Wales face Fiji in the autumn internationalsjust by filling out a quick form provided.

In spite of living the American dream, Rees-Zammit admits that rugby still tugs at his heartstrings “a little bit”. He underscored his steadfast commitment to succeeding in gridiron in a chat on Danny Care’s YouTube podcast but intriguingly left the door ajar for a potential return to the rugby field, saying: “I’ve watched every game of Gloucester’s this year, so it’s not something that’s like completely off the table.

“But I’m still…this is my dream, I’m chasing this dream as far as I can and I’m working so hard every day to make this happen. So I’m not really thinking about rugby too much to be honest with you.

“I enjoy watching it, I miss it a little bit but at the same time this is my full goal and dream to make it in the NFL. I’m trying to work as hard as I can to make this dream a reality.”

When asked about the comparison between the cheerleaders at the Jags or the atmosphere at Gloucester home games on a cold Friday night, he humorously responded: “I loved playing in front of the Shed, they are such loyal supporters. It was my only club I ever played for. So that was unbelievable.”

The Welshman recently expressed his desire to see an NFL game hosted at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

NFL executives are eager to broaden the sport’s popularity in the UK and Ireland by also organising future games at new venues, in new cities.

“It would be unbelievable to have one in the Principality Stadium,” he commented. “I grew up around the corner and played there a few times. That would mean a lot. I think it’s great to have games in London but why not have one in Wales and in Ireland and expand it a bit more?

“It allows the fans around the UK [to experience it]. It would be great to expand it outside London.”
