The Dready Westin 7s earned the 2024 RF Bank and Trust October 7s Series championship to cap off their undefeated campaign over three weekends of action.

“The last time we won the series was five years ago in 2019 so it is good to win once again, and to go undefeated through the whole series feels great,” Edward Westin told the Compass.

This year, there were four teams competing in the event – Peter O’Neil’s Wolfhounds 7s, Hive Ama Tsotsi 7s, Ashley Furniture 7s and Dready Westin 7s.

Each of the three tournaments consisted of a round-robin format, held at the South Sound Rugby Club where many spectators showed up to cheer for their teams, including rugby legend Jason Robinson.

The Westin squad, which recruited three Fijian players to their lineup, went undefeated through the entire series, with 39 tries over nine games.

“The addition of the the Fijian players not only bolstered our team but forced all the other teams to raise their level of play as well, and it really made for a very competitive series,” Westin said, adding that their participation wouldn’t have been possible without sponsors Tom Sperandeo and Tim Furey.

“It was a fun series and there were some very close matches as all the teams really stepped up this year.

“I hope to see more teams bring in international players in the future to help raise the level of play locally and give players a chance to play with and against top quality players,” he said, adding, “I am very proud of all the boys who worked hard to get the win.”

In addition, the team earned one more accolade as Paul Westin won the player of the series.
