Tadhg Furlong, a key player in Ireland’s front row, is out of Friday’s autumn opener against New Zealand due to a “slight hamstring strain.”
Head coach Andy Farrell hasn’t confirmed if the 31-year-old tighthead will be ready to face Argentina on November 15.
In Furlong’s absence, Connacht’s Finlay Bealham will step up, with Ulster’s Tom O’Toole taking a spot on the bench.
Meanwhile, Ronan Kelleher has made it through his own fitness challenges and will cover for the injured Dan Sheehan at hooker.
Taking on captain duties for the autumn series is Caelan Doris, with Six Nations-winning captain Peter O’Mahony set to bring his experience from the bench.
