CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — Wales has lost scrumhalf Tomos Williams to injury and made four changes to its beleaguered team for the rugby test against Australia in Cardiff on Sunday.
Ellis Bevan was promoted on Wednesday to play at scrumhalf in place of Williams, while Tom Rogers came in on the wing in place of Mason Grady, who was ruled out Tuesday after getting injured early in the 24-19 loss to Fiji on Sunday.
Back-row forwards James Botham — grandson of England cricket great Ian Botham — and Jac Morgan were brought into the team for the other two changes from the Fiji game.
Australia started the November test series with a 42-37 win over England at Twickenham.
Wales has lost 10 consecutive tests — tying its worst run in 2002-03. The Welsh are in danger of going through 2024 without a win, with world champion South Africa coming up after the Wallabies.
“We have had honest reviews after last week’s match,” coach Warren Gatland said. “There were some things we did well that we are looking to build on, but we need to be more accurate and disciplined especially in key moments.
“We’re expecting an Australia side on a high after their win against England. They are a much-improved side since the summer and have played a number of test matches since we last met. We know we need to put in an 80-minute performance on Sunday.”
