Portlaoise Rugby Club has lodged a planning application with Laois County Council for an extension to their changing rooms to cope with the growing membership numbers in the club.

The application seeks permission to extend the existing changing rooms at Togher, Portlaoise as well as new lighting design layout and all associated works. The club is also seeking retention permission for their gym room.

“Due to rising membership numbers and greater interest in Rugby in general the club has found that they require additional dressing room space to cater for both sexes,” the club said in its application.

“The additional room will include dressing room to specification of the IRFU, with shower  facilities and toilets. The extension is to an existing dressing room building which previously was extended by way of a gym unit without the benefit of planning. We are also looking to rectify the status on this.”

The application was lodged on November 11 and a decision is due to be made by Council planners by January 14, 2025.
