Doris has enjoyed an excellent season, helping Ireland to Six Nations success before claiming a Test win in South Africa for only the second time.

The Leinster number eight also took over the Ireland captaincy from Peter O’Mahony for the ongoing Autumn Nations Series

Three Irish players have won the award previously – Keith Wood (2001), Johnny Sexton (2018) and Josh van der Flier (2022).

Pieter-Steph du Toit is the only player of the four nominated to previously win the award.

The Springboks flanker previously claimed the award in 2019 and has been a near ever-present as his side won The Rugby Championship and embarked on a successful tour of Europe.

His team-mate Eben Etzebeth is nominated for the second successive year having become South Africa’s most-capped men’s player.

The third Springbok on the list is Cheslin Kolbe, who once again starred in 2024 while showing his versatility – adding lineout throwing to his bulging bag of tricks.

Meanwhile, Jamie Osborne has been shortlisted for the Men’s 15s Breakthrough Player of the Year.

The Leinster youngster made an instant impact on Ireland’s tour of South Africa despite lining up in an unfamiliar position.

Olympian Erin King got nomination for the Women’s 15s Breakthrough Player of the Year. King was Ireland’s match-winner against New Zealand in September.

James Lowe’s try scored against England at Twickenham in March made the shortlist for Men’s 15s Try of the Year.

Lowe finished off a fine team move in acrobatic fashion, profiting from excellent work from Jack Crowley and Caelan Doris before Ciaran Frawley gave the scoring pass.

And last but not least, Terry Kennedy has been nominated for Men’s Sevens Player of the Year.

Kennedy – who won this award in 2022 – was top try scorer with 32 in last season’s HSBC Men’s SVNS Series as Ireland finished the regular season as runners-up behind Argentina.
