Welsh teen fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones is the man of the moment right now, pulling off an incredible performance at the Principality Stadium.

An under-18s star for Llandovery College, he helped steer his side to glory over Coleg Y Cymoedd in the Welsh Schools and Colleges final on Thursday evening. It was Leggatt-Jones’ second successive player of the match award at the home of Welsh rugby.

The Wales U18 cap bagged two drop goals, converted five tries and created a try with an outrageous reverse pass. Leggatt-Jones is certainly living up to his hype, after current Wales star Jac Morgan selected him for the player of the match award one year ago, as Llandovery were crowned the best school rugby team in Wales.

A video of all his best moments for the game has been clipped together online and is causing quite a stir with fans as it is so impressive. You can watch his highlight reel below.

Carmarthen Quins reposted the footage, writing: “Outstanding performance from someone who’s come through our mini and junior section #Q4L”

Fans were very impressed by the young man.

“Has the Welsh no.10 factory started production again?,” said one.

“Start him in the Six Nations, I’ve seen enough,” joked one.

“Wow that’s some highlight reel,” said another.

The Welsh Rugby Union described Leggatt-Jones’ performance as ‘virtuoso’ and said he had a ‘near faultless game’.

Leggatt-Jones perhaps provides a glimpse into the future at fly-half for Wales, given there hasn’t been a nailed on 10 since Dan Biggar retired last year. The likes of Ben Thomas, Sam Costelow and Gareth Anscombe have played in the role, but while the latter is a top class operator, he’s nearing the end of his career.

Former Wales back-rower Nathan Thomas, who is now head of rugby at Llandovery College, spoke positively about 18-year-old Leggatt-Jones prior to the victory. “”So, last year he was a revelation for the team,” he said. “He plays with total freedom but any mistakes he does make he seems to brush off really well. He doesn’t wear any of those mistakes. He plays with a lot of freedom and he’s been a class performer for us.”

While his attacking prowess is obvious, Thomas also noted how good the teenager is defensively. “Everything we have seen from Carwyn so far in terms of his array of kicks and his ability to make good decisions right in the face of a defence is as good as anything I’ve seen coming through the system,” he added.

“He seems to be a lot wiser than his actual age and it’s weird to think he’s only in Year 12. If he gets the right support over the next years I don’t see how he can’t be playing at professional level at least.”
