With a win-rate of 77%, the All Blacks are not only one of the greatest rugby teams of all time, but one of the most successful teams in all of world sport – a pretty formidable claim. Swiss watch brand Tudor has been the official timekeeper of the New Zealand team since 2017 – with two-time World Rugby Player of the Year Beauden Barrett as its headline ambassador.
To celebrate Tudor’s partnership with Bucherer 1888 – and get a bit of practice in ahead of the All Blacks’ recent Twickenham match against England – Barrett met Men’s Health outside Bucherer’s London HQ for an impromptu training session. (The All Blacks would ultimately defeat England 22-24 – but who’s keeping score?) In between passes and agility drills, we asked him a few questions…
Bucherer x Tudor
What does a typical training day look like for you now?
It always starts with breakfast and a coffee. Usually a gym session, a few meetings then an on-field training session in the afternoon. I’ll usually have a sauna, ice bath or a massage in the evenings for recovery.
What’s one item that’s always in your gym bag?
My headphones. Good music can help me grind through some tough sessions…
And what’s on your current training playlist?
Guns N’ Roses.
Who’s the one person you’d most like to hit the gym with, dead or alive?
Someone like [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback] Pat Mahomes would be cool, just to see the way he prepares for a game during a training week.

Outside of rugby, who inspires you the most?
My dad. He’s incredibly hard working and has always been an inspiration to us.
Any training sessions you really dread?
Usually a heavy WattBike session! I’m much more comfortable running.
Do you have a tip or technique for managing pre-match nerves?
I like to keep my routine the same before every game. It gives me confidence that my preparation will lead to a good performance.
What does Tudor’s brand motto ‘Born to Dare’ mean to you?
Having the confidence to step outside my comfort zone and break boundaries. Often having the courage to try something risky in a game of rugby!
Black Bay GMT
Beauden Barrett’s favourite Tudor watch is the Black Bay GMT Pepsi. ‘It’s a perfect travelling companion,’ he says.
