Ireland props Andrew Porter and Tadhg Furlong have signed contract extensions with the IRFU which will keep them with Leinster and Ireland until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Furlong, who made his international debut against Wales in 2015, has made 78 Test appearances, winning three Six Nations titles. The tighthead prop remains a cornerstone of Ireland’s scrum and will be a key member of head coach Andy Farrell’s side as they build towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
In addition to Ireland, Furlong was also a key player for the British & Irish Lions in 2017 and 2021, with his consistently influential performances earning him a place in the World Rugby Dream Team in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Is the Champions Cup on its last legs?
Since making his senior Leinster debut in November 2013, the 32-year-old from Wexford has played 149 times for the province, winning four Pro12/Pro14 titles and the European Champions Cup.
Porter, who started at loosehead prop in all 11 of Ireland’s Tests in 2024, has also established himself as an integral member of Farrell’s squad and a hugely efficient player around the park, where he has brought a uniquely physical edge to Ireland’s play.
The 28-year-old made his Test debut against USA in 2017 and has gone on to earn 70 caps for Ireland, winning three Six Nations titles and featuring in the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.
Porter has played 128 times for Leinster since making his senior debut in September 2016. Like Furlong, he has four Pro12/Pro14 titles and a European Champions Cup win to his credit, and has scored 18 tries for the province.
“Andrew is an outstanding world-class talent and it is a huge statement of intent that he has committed his future to both Leinster and the IRFU,” said IRFU performance director David Humphreys. “He has maintained a consistently high level of performance for club and country and his durability means that he is a key figure in Irish Rugby and will continue to be so for the next few seasons.”
On Furlong, Humphreys added: “Tadhg is a world-class tighthead whose influence transcends his abilities on the field. Since breaking into the Leinster and Ireland set-ups he has set a new standard as a prop and his hunger to improve and perform at a consistently high level sets him apart.”
More announcements from the IRFU regarding player contracts are expected to be made on Tuesday.
