A ‘MAGICAL’ Christmas experience was enjoyed by 50 asylum-seeker families when they were invited to join the audience of a festive stage show in Rugby.

Macready Theatre opened its doors to the families as part of its ongoing partnership with a hotel in Rugby where they are staying.

The families enjoyed a performance of The Three Little Pigs by Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company.

The initiative began in 2023, when the venue contributed seats to Ukrainian refugees living in Rugby.

Now, venue staff say they are thrilled to continue the support by welcoming families from different countries, including Kurdish regions, Sweden, and Germany.

A spokesperson for the hotel said: “The majority of these people had never been to the theatre before, so the experience was truly incredible for them.

“At our hotel, we focus not only on providing accommodation but also on supporting our guests’ mental health and encouraging quality time as a family.

“We believe this is incredibly important, and Macready Theatre played a big part in helping us achieve that. The opportunity the staff gave us to take these families out of the hotel and share such a memorable experience means so much to all of us.”

Macready Theatre’s Manager Amie Johnson said: “It is wonderful to once again provide a warm welcome to asylum-seeker families currently residing in Rugby.

“Being able to offer such magical experiences to these families in need is a very incredible thing. We also recognise the generosity from Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company and are thankful for their support with this cause.”

Macready Theatre has launched an outreach program ‘Kids4Free’ to provide opportunities for local schools and children from disadvantaged backgrounds to be inspired by live theatre. Visit www.macreadytheatre.co.uk/kids4free for more information.

The Three Little Pigs – a retelling of the classic tale performed by raucous puppets – runs until January 5. Visit www.macreadytheatre.co.uk for more information.
