An “inspiring” touch rugby champion and key member of the sport in Luxembourg has died at the age of 42.

Vanessa Kunsch represented the Grand Duchy in the 2012 European Championship in the senior mixed division and was part of the women’s team which won an international match at the Paris Elegance tournament in the same year.

Kunsch was born with a malformed right arm and hand, which did not stop her from playing touch rugby at a high level.

“For me she was more than a sporting pioneer, but truly an inspiring person to know,” said Nick Frank, president of Touch Luxembourg. “She put herself out there and did the things she enjoyed.”

Kunsch, who also enjoyed cross-fit, will be remembered for her contribution to women’s sports in Luxembourg.

“So thank you Vanessa for being such a role model for men and women in terms of facing adversity, not being scared and doing the things that are important to us,” Frank added.
