England rugby league international Dom Young has downplayed links with a potential switch to rugby union in the near future, but admitted he has considered it in the past.
The superstar winger, who played alongside Wallabies cross-code man Joseph Suaalii at the Sydney Roosters, notched a whopping 20 tries in his 22 outings last season.
Reports also emerged earlier this year that the flyer was attracting interest from England boss Steve Borthwick.
Dom Young downplays talks of potential rugby union switch
Speaking to Australian outlet News Corp, Young downplayed the rumours he was set to move to the 15-man game.
“There were a few rumours, but I haven’t had any talks,” the winger said.
“I have considered it in the past, and had some talks with a couple of clubs before I came out here.”

“It’s not even like that I want to play union, it’s just an option I’ve considered.”
The Dewsbury-native made his professional debut for Super League side Huddersfield Giants in 2019, but only made two appearances in total before heading down under to join NRL side Newcastle Knights. He made 51 appearances for the Knights over his three seasons, scoring 43 tries in the process.
Following his successful stint with the Knights, he was snapped up by the Roosters and quickly became a mainstay in their starting 13 as they reached the NRL Preliminary finals.
He also made his Test debut for England during the 2022 World Cup, and has scored nine tries in his six caps to date.
‘Strong interest’ from rugby union
Rumours surrounding a potential code switch were spurred on by his manager Michael Cincotta, who said there has always been a “strong interest” in bringing the 6′ 7″ back to the 15-man game.
“There’s always been strong interest from rugby union for Dom,” he said.
“There were some discussions prior to Dom beginning his NRL career. It’s certainly something that will be considered down the track if it’s the right opportunity. Dom is an exceptional athlete and would make a seamless switch with his game-breaking ability.”
Young is also understood to have attracted interest from England boss Borthwick, with rugby league icon Martin Offiah previously telling Planet Rugby: “I know for a fact that Dom Young in particular is a player who Steve Borthwick is very much aware of because I’ve spoken to Steve about it.”
