The most violent rugby match of all time saw nine players suspended and one banned for life.

The match in question took place in Argentina, with Personal Bank Mendoza playing against Huazihul San Juan Rugby Club. Tempers flared between the two sides with multiple people being chased and punches thrown.

The level of chaos was turned up a level when the fans got involved. With the violence spilling over to the touchline, what was a 30-man brawl fast became complete disarray.

Punches flew in from every angle, with a jumping two-footed kick an example of the level of violence on display. With so many separate brawls taking place across the field, the person filming struggles to focus on any individual spat.

According to reports, it all started when there was a simple disagreement between the two teams. The referee attempted to calm down the players, but once the ball was kicked out, it was open season.

Three players from Personal Bank Mendoza were banned until the end of 2016, the year it occurred. It was a different story for players of Huazihul, though, who are serving much longer bans.

Huazihul’s president issued a statement after the incident: “While this is a contact sport, no excuse is valid to justify the shameful acts that occurred in yesterday between the teams. Our institution has 89 years of history, is a founding club rugby in Cuyo and has always trumpeted the core values that make this sport unlike any other.

“Principles such as respect, companionship, solidarity, should not form hollow words, should rise as standards, especially in modern times where so much misery and indifference is observed.

“There are no words to express the sorrow that invades us as a club at this time.”
