Head coach Stuart Lancaster has reportedly left French giants Racing 92 with immediate effect, ending his tenure midway through a turbulent season.

According to widespread reports, the Englishman’s departure is all but confirmed though Racing have yet to make an official announcement.

The Parisians sits 12th in the Top 14, having won just five of 15 league matches so far. Their European campaign also faltered, with only two wins in the Investec Champions Cup pool stages before dropping into the EPCR Challenge Cup.

Lancaster’s exit follows months of speculation, with reports earlier this week suggesting Racing were considering a change. Former La Rochelle and Toulon coach Patrick Collazo is expected to take over on an interim basis.

The 55-year-old Lancaster faced criticism for the club’s form and selection decisions, including starting his son, Dan, at flyhalf during Owen Farrell’s injury absence. Farrell, Racing’s marquee signing, has struggled to make an impact.

Lancaster has been linked with Munster, though he previously dismissed reports of a return to Ireland.

Racing 92 next face RC Vannes on 15 February as they battle to avoid slipping further into the relegation fight.
