Welcome to the Super Rugby Pacific Casualty Ward, the hub of all injury updates and news for the 2025 season.

All sides have named their squads for this week on Wednesday, depth is already being called upon fill in for several Wallabies and All Black stars.

A strong contingent of players have gone for the likes of Moana Pasifika – and while the Chiefs sit at the top of the ladder, their win over the Crusaders came at a cost, with several All Blacks out – and another set to miss the rest of the season.

The action starts Friday afternoon, so be sure to take part in our tipping competition – and while you’re in fantasy mode, also consider joining The Roar league in the Super Rugby official fantasy game.

We’d like to shoutout Roar reader Bourkos for getting on the ball with the league, serving as our league’s Chairman – feel free to sign up with your Roar name included!

On the Australian front, Noah Lolesio will spend another week on the sidelines, and he is set to be joined by Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, who has sustained a toe injury.

The Force meanwhile have lost a further two injuries under concussion protocol – Jeremy Williams and Sio Tomkinson – far from ideal as they look to go three from three and preserve their strong record at home when they face a strong Reds outfit.

The following list and summary below detail the current state of injuries confirmed by each Super Rugby side, with a type of injury and reported duration on the sidelines. We have also included the earliest return estimate based on the data available.

ACT Brumbies

The Brumbies have lost two more players as they prepare to head over to New Zealand, with Wallaby Tom Hooper out with concussion and Tuaina Taii Tualima picking up an illness. What has been more frustrating is that three players, David Feliuai, Feao Fotuaika and Lolesio were slated to be available this week, however complications will see the trio spend at least another week on the sidelines.

NSW Waratahs

The Waratahs will be glad to be back on the paddock this weekend – although two key losses in Joey Walton and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii are a dampener on their game against the Drua. Overall, while it is not ideal to lose two key players, the Tahs casualty ward is not looking too bad compared to other sides – and they have been bolstered by the return of Jack Barrett from a leg injury.

Western Force

The Force are copping the brunt of the Australian injuries right now, with 11 players sidelined. Two losses were sustained in their big win over the Brumbies, with captain Jeremy Williams and centre Sio Tomkinson ruled out under head injury protocols as a precaution. Fortunately, the side should be well covered, with Sam Carter slotting in Williams’ place and Reesjan Pasitoa making his long-awaited return to the side, playing his first game in over 1,000 days.

Queensland Reds

The Reds may have several big stars sidelined – and lost two Wallabies in Jock Campbell and Hunter Paisami (albeit, to a judicial suspension) – but all things considered, they’re coming into a crucial clash in Perth in a good place, with four stars returning from injury, and one being named on the bench in former Wallaby captain Liam Wright. With the Crusaders and Tahs in the coming weeks, this contingent has returned at just the right time.

Fijian Drua

The Drua have lost their captain Frank Lomani to an ankle injury, however, the star Fijian is expected to make a quick recovery – with Simione Kuruvoli to slot into his position against the Waratahs. It caps off a relatively under-control casualty ward for Glen Jackson as he looks to chase his maiden victory.

Moana Pasifika

Sometimes, you have those weeks where you cop the brunt of the injuries, and for round two, it was Moana Pasifika. Tana Umaga’s side picked up six injuries in their loss to the Queensland Reds, among them centre Lalomilo Lalomilo and All Black centre Julian Savea. The side will be up against it for their first home game of the season, especially with the Highlanders also looking relatively unscathed.

Blues

The Blues will welcome back Ben Ake from injury, however, he has not be named in their side that will travel to Wellington. Vern Cotter’s men have sustained three injuries, the biggest being Tafua Funaki with a shoulder injury. While several back up players being lost in a concern, the Blues do still have a formidable starting line up, which should come into play in the coming weeks.

Chiefs

The Chiefs might be on top of the ladder, but casualty ward-wise, they will be hoping for better luck in the coming weeks. The good news is their much-prized hooker Samisoni Taukei’aho makes a welcome return to the bench, returning a week earlier than expected from an Achilles injury. However, the side has sustained three more injuries, with All Black Luke Jacobson set to be sidelined with a nose injury, while Kaleb Trask and Rameka Poihipi have picked up more serious injuries in a hamstring and knee injury, respectively.

Unfortunately, Poihipi’s season is now confirmed to be over, with the centre joining Wallace Sititi on the sidelines.

The Crusaders will enjoy the bye after an opening fortnight with a win and a loss – and given their lengthy injury list, it has probably come at an ideal time for Rob Penney’s men.

Highlanders

TK Howden is a welcome return for Jamie Joseph, coming straight onto the bench for his side’s clash with Moana Pasifika. Daniel Lienert-Brown will serve three weeks on the sidelines thank to his red card suspension, which Josh Whaanga has sustained a mild back injury, but should be good to return following the bye.

Hurricanes

Despite a bruising encounter in Napier, the Hurricanes have escaped relatively unscathed, with Callum Harkin set to miss round three with a head injury. Isaia Walker-Leawere is a welcome return for the men from Wellington, though news that Asafo Aumua’s foot injury taking longer than expected would not be news Clark Laidlaw wanted to hear – especially with the Blues rolling into town.
