Ireland’s largest Phase One1 offshore wind project, Codling Wind Park, is supporting women’s rugby in the Garden County, by donating €5,000 to Wicklow Rugby Club to develop a drainage system at the women’s rugby grounds.

In the club’s red and black colours, Ann Morrisey, President and Eimear Doughlas, senior captain of Wicklow Rugby Club, were both delighted to receive funding so that the women’s teams can play on solid ground. The rugby grounds, along with many sporting fixtures across Ireland, have experienced water logging and ‘call offs’ due to persistent rainfall. The funding from Codling will go some way to help change that.

Duncan Duke, Chair and James Keating, manager senior women’s section were there to witness the cheque handover by Codling’s Community Liaison Officer, Deirdre Joyce, and will be putting the funds to good use by upgrading pitch drainage at the club.

In recent years Codling has supported organisations and projects across the community aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals2.

Codling Wind Park will also deliver a €200m community benefit fund in support of local community activities.
