Irish rugby fan in intensive care following botulism outbreak linked to Bordeaux wine bar

An Irish rugby fan has been admitted to intensive care following an outbreak of botulism in Bordeaux which has seen one person die and left at least 10 others seriously ill.

An Irish fan who travelled to the city for Ireland’s opening World Cup fixture versus Romania has been admitted to ICU in Spain in connection with the outbreak, it has been reported.

The outbreak of the condition in the French city has been linked to a wine bar and fans have been warned to consult a doctor if they ate in the Tchin Tchin wine bar last week.

In an update to Irish people in Bordeaux this morning, the Irish Embassy in Paris, said: “The Embassy is aware of a botulism outbreak linked to a wine bar in Bordeaux.

“We advise Irish citizens who ate in Tchin Tchin Wine Bar between September 4th and 10th to immediately consult a doctor if experiencing any symptoms”.

Several Irish people are reported to be ill after attending the popular bar, which was full of Irish fans at the week
