MUNSTER Rugby have today announced that Focus Ireland have been selected as one of the club’s nominated charities for the 2024/25 season.

There will be a charity swim this Sunday in the ‘Take the Plunge’ initiative at a beach near you. For €25, you can register for Take The Plunge, a dip in the sea to raise vital funds for the 14,760 individuals and 4,561 children who are currently experiencing homelessness in Ireland.

Over the season Munster Rugby will work closely with Focus Ireland, actively supporting them in helping raise awareness and funds for much-needed resources that are widely availed of across the province and Ireland.

Focus Ireland are a nationwide charity that work with people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of losing their homes across Ireland.

The organisation provides advice, information, advocacy, housing, and help with finding a home. The number of people who are homeless has surpassed 14,500 in 2024. This includes a record number of 4,419 children and 2,099 families who are currently without a home.

Focus Ireland joined Munster players Billy Burns, Alex Nankivell and Diarmuid Barron at the University of Limerick training base last month to launch the partnership.

Commenting on the partnership, Lorraine Toner, Head of Community Fundraising from Focus Ireland, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Munster Rugby for choosing to support Focus Ireland through this partnership. Their dedication to raising awareness and in turn funds to help us end homelessness is truly inspiring.

“This partnership helps us continue our vital work in addressing homelessness and housing insecurity, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of the team’s involvement. Together, we can make a meaningful impact, and we look forward to the year ahead with this collaboration.”

On announcing Focus Ireland as one of Munster Rugby’s nominated charities for season 2024/25, Seán McMahon, Munster Rugby Head of Communications, said: “This is our 15th season coordinating the Munster Rugby nominated charity partnership, and as ever, the process to select the charities is very challenging with so many worthy causes looking for our support.

“We believe Focus Ireland are doing fantastic work across the community providing essential services and support, and we are very much looking forward to working with them for the season ahead.”
