Alun Wyn Jones gave Welsh rugby fans some much-needed light relief on Monday morning as he showed off some Samba moves live on the BBC.

The former Wales captain was a guest on Morning Live as he spoke about being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation last year, to help raise awareness of the heart condition. But after talking with hosts Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones, as well as Dr Xand van Tulleken about living with the condition and looking after your heart, the 39-year-old was roped in to help with the show’s finale.

With presenter Rhys Stephenson leading a Samba-themed ‘Strictly fitness’ session to close out the show, Jones was encouraged to join in with the rest of the guests and show off some dance moves.

And the former lock rose to the challenge as he danced to the music, rotating his hips and waving his arms in the air. While he seemed initially daunted by dancing on live TV, Jones quickly eased into it and couldn’t hide his grin as the show’s presenters noticed what they thought was a hidden talent.

In fact, Skelton – who like her co-presenters Jones and Stephenson has previously been a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing – suggested that the rugby legend could appear on a future series of the BBC show.

“Can I just say, Rhys,” she said. “Keep an eye on Alun Wyn over here – because you might be getting a call! Be careful.”

With Jones chuckling at the suggestion, Stephenson agreed, adding: “They love a rugby player on Strictly. The hips don’t lie,” while his co-presenter admitted “Alun Wyn, I’m very impressed!”.
